The road to Grootwaterval is a gravel road, not always graded, so you would be advised to come in a car with high clearance. If your vehicle cannot handle this sort of road we can arrange for you to leave your car at a secure venue, collect you in our vehicle and drive you to and from the farm.
Grootwaterval Farmhouse Guest rooms B&B
We have two guest rooms in the fully serviced stately farm house.
Brave the heat of summer and relax in the cool swimming pool in our beautiful green garden.
Additional meals can be arranged upon request and at an additional charge.
All meals are fully catered and the cuisine is typical Karoo country style. We assure you of a warm welcome in our home.
Self-catering in our cottages and at Grootwaterval Lodge
Our two rustic cottages are renovated labourers' houses with an old fashioned warm atmosphere of oil lamps and candles. We do have a solar system for lighting but most of our guests prefer the oil lamps.
The kitchens are fully equipped with gas-fridges, gas-burner, crockery, pots and pans. Bedding and towels are provided – just bring your own food. Both cottages have large, covered stoeps, an ideal space to relax and breathe in the silence. The houses are set well apart to give you privacy.
Ribbok Cottage (sleeps 4 - 5 people)
This cozy cottage consists of an open plan fully equipped kitchen which also has an old but working wood stove. There's a small living room with a sleeper couch for the fifth guest. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with single beds, each with en-suite shower.
On the stoep you have braai facilities and huge old acacia trees give you shade from the summer heat.

Gemsbok Cottage (sleeps 4 - 6 people)
The homely cottage has two bedrooms (one double and two single beds) each with en-suite shower, a pull out sofa in the living room can accommodate two additional guests. There is a fully equipped, open plan kitchen.
The generous covered stoep with the outside braai overlooks a small succulent garden.

Grootwaterval Lodge (sleeps 8 - 12 people)
If you are an outdoor enthusiast and love nature and solitude we recommend you stay at our Lodge – the perfect place for a group of friends or a family. The spacious house (7km from the farm house) has no electricity but a lot of oil lamps.
In the main building there is an open-plan kitchen with everything you need, gas-fridge / freezer, gas-burner and an Aga stove. On cold winter nights you can enjoy the cozy inside fireplace in the living room.
The four bedrooms (two with double beds, two with single beds) are all en-suite. You enter each one from the generous laid out stoep which has an outside fireplace. To enjoy a sundowner on the stoep is a special experience.
Grootwaterval Lodge sleeps eight guests and an additional four can be accommodated in the bunkhouse next to the Lodge.

Grootwaterval Farm offers a wealth of activities for our visitors. The topography of the farm as well as the type of veld lends itself to hiking and mountain biking. There are amazing views, a rich variety of wildlife, birds and indigenous vegetation. The night skies above the Karoo are famous for their clarity - you will see the most amazing starscapes!
