The beautiful Karoo town of Prince Albert is a place that stands out as a hub of inspiration and artistic innovation as if something in the air attracts more than its fair share of artists, creatives and colourful characters. In this context, Prince Albert Open Studios was initiated by celebrated printmaker Joshua Miles and his wife Angela, in 2017. Since then, the event has become a firm favourite for locals and visitors alike.

Local artists open their studios up to members of the public, giving greater exposure to their art and their process – this has ensured that they attract a wider following for their art while simultaneously bringing a personal touch to the business of creating and selling art. Many visitors have remarked that they appreciate the intimacy of meeting the artists and seeing their workspace; for the artists, it’s a wonderful opportunity to see their art through the eyes of these visitors and potential buyers – seeing the way in which their work resonates with others is incredibly rewarding.

Prince Albert Open Studios offers art lovers, investors, and other artists a rare glimpse into the hallowed creative spaces where that meeting of materials and talent happens, an opportunity to meet the artists in their personal domains, and engage with them on a one-to-one basis about their thinking, methods and the ‘heart’ behind the art.
