Open Studios: Prince Albert (on-line) Art Route

website: princealbertopenstudios.co.za

Lockdown... not all bad news — our physical event has been cancelled, but we will be holding an ONLINE EDITION of Prince Albert Open Studios in its place, on 18-21 June 2020. Local artists will be exhibiting their latest available work online, along with virtual glimpses into their studios!

A visit to our delightful Karoo town, brimming with creatives and colourful characters, is always a treat. For art lovers and collectors, it gets even better, because many local artists are open by appointment throughout the year, including Di Smith, Sue Hoppe, Sally Arnold, Pat Hyland, Collette Hurt, Sonja Fourie, Renee Calitz, Di van der Riet Steyn, Joshua Miles and John O’Sullivan.

Twice a year, many of the local artists open their private studio spaces to the public for a four day long art route. In these hallowed spaces, some belonging to internationally known artists, you can find anything from ancient skills such as blacksmithing, calligraphy, woodcutting and etching, through a whole spectrum from paintings in oils, watercolours and acrylics, both traditional and contemporary, to sculpture and jewellery made from found objects, land art, ceramics, and even kaleidoscopes and steam-punk light fittings made from old Land Rover parts.

Prince Albert Community Trust has joined the route, and will be holding a special event at the POP Centre in June, where Igshaan Adams (textile artist and a recipient of the Standard Bank Young Artists Award) and his team of art technicians will be collaborating with PACT and local crafters of the town, plus the children and youth of the Rondomskrik POP Centre. The final work will be displayed at the POP Centre (no 27 on the map) for the duration of Prince Albert Open Studios and then donated to the local public hospital to be hung in their waiting room.
